Tutors help students in lower grades learn their studies, but what training do they usually have? Are they licensed teachers or just a school buddy? How do you know a tutor will be able to help your son or daughter get better grades?

Tutors

Lumen Learning Center thoroughly checks the qualifications and the backgrounds of the tutors that are hired to teach you or your children. All of our tutors must meet a high standard of qualifications before they are hired.

Generally, all potential tutors must pass a background check to prove that they have a personal history clear of criminal activities, have excellent personal references from other upstanding people in the community, have excellent communication skills, superior work habits and are known to be reliable.

In addition to these attributes, our Junior Tutors must be enrolled in a college pursuing a degree. They must have at least one year of prior tutoring experience, preferably two years. Training in working with learning disabilities is preferred, but not always required to teach for Lumen Learning Center.

Our Senior Tutors must have a Bachelor’s Degree along with two to three years of tutoring experience before they qualify to be hired as a Senior Tutor at Lumen Learning Center. Of course, in addition they must have passed the background checks and other personal requirements that all of our tutors are required to pass. Training in teaching those with learning challenges is preferred, but not a requirement.

Lumen Learning Center

Our tutors and interns work with students one on one in their homes, in the Center and in our classroom settings. We have high standards for those that work with our students to make certain the learning students receive is productive, safe and enjoyable. Our students find learning to be fun and they progress quickly in their subjects.
