Various learning styles are employed by students in the classroom, as not every child learns effectively in the same way. The challenge in teaching is to figure out the style that works best for each student. By keeping with that style for the student, he or she will learn quickly and retain what is learned.
Learning Styles
Visual learners will retain information easily when they associate an image in their mind’s eye of the material learned. While the visual learner is studying, they will visualize the material and forever associate that image with the information. When they need to recall the information learned then the image will allow them to quickly retrieve that information.
Auditory learners will remember things best when it is repeated to them over and over. The repetition tends to pack it into their brain where it is stored forever. These types of learners make great story tellers and can easily recall something that was said to them many months prior. It takes an auditory learner a little bit longer to retrieve information in a testing setting.
Kinesthetic learners like to touch and feel projects in order to learn them. They are very hands-on in learning and do well in settings where there are physical learning experiences, such as chemistry experiments, sewing projects or other classroom projects. It can be a challenge for kinesthetic learners to take a written test, because they simply don’t think that way. They tend to be a little scattered and not very organized on paper. However, in the real world, they make excellent sports stars and sales people that work out in the field.
Lumen Learning Center
At Lumen Learning Center we strive to help your child learn easily by first identifying his or her learning style. By teaching in that same style, your child will excel in his or her lessons.
