As a parent, the idea of homeschooling was not something that ever crossed your mind. With schools closed, some parents are realizing that homeschooling is not as simple as they thought. The bone of contention is on how many hours the kids should take on with homeschooling.
According to the chart provided by the Illinois state board of education, homeschooling education should be between 20 and 60 minutes every day of distance learning for pre-kindergarten. For elementary school children, homeschooling sessions should be about 2 hours, and 4 hours for high school kids.
Math Sessions at Lumen Learning Center
On a typical day, your child spends about 6 hours or more at school. However, they do not spend all this time learning. It may surprise you that the average time spent learning new material in a standard class period is about 10 minutes. Teachers spend a lot of the class period collecting and reviewing homework, settling the class down, and dealing with disruptions.
The math session at Lumen Learning Center is only one hour on Wednesdays, between 12:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. In our opinion, this is the most appropriate time for distance learning because of a handful of factors. Typically, it is easier for parents and students to settle down after doing their chores and taking their lunch.
After the session, there is still enough time to explore and relax or have fun in the afternoon. According to experts, scattering the instruction time does a lot of good for the kid’s brain. Our lessons are scattered appropriately to support effective learning.
