Math help, please! Math is one subject that most everyone seems to struggle with, yet some grasp it right away. There are a few ways to get the math help you need. One way to better understand math is through note taking. It can be tricky when it comes to note taking; the teacher says so much about the problem or formula and you feel like you have to write it all down. Hint: you don’t! Here are some ideas on what you should take note of: Textbook Chapter Title and Number, the formula or problem, an example of the problem the teacher gives you and the steps to solve the problem.

Math Help by Example

Solving Quadratic Equations Using a Graphing Calculator 7.5

x=(-b±√(b^2-4ac))/2a
ax^2+bx+c=0 5x^2+5x-1=0 a=5 b=5 c=-1
x= (-5±√(5^2-4(5)(-1)))/(2(5)) x= (-5±√ (25+20))/10 x=(-5±√45)/10
Using the graphing calculator: x = 0.171 and x = -1.171

The teacher may throw different versions of the same problem at you. Just know they’ll want you to get the problem in the ax^2+bx+c=0 format first, because it’ll be easier to solve.

Another good tip for math help is to audio record your teacher, (once you have permission of course!), and listen to it as you do your homework. You may pick up something helpful on the recording that you missed in class while you tried solving a problem. If you have a friend in the same class, ask them for their help. They may be able to explain it in a way that makes sense to you. There are also several videos online to help guide you in understanding math.

Don’t forget a tutor for help! A tutor for math help is a great resource if you feel that more one-on-one instruction is best for you. At Lumen Learning Center, you can find a tutor for math help in almost every classification, though most are very knowledgeable in all areas in math.
